Hello, I'm Surbhi!

I founded Greens REALIGN after years of working within the environmental movement. My experiences left me disheartened by the movement's pervasive lack of accountability to the communities profoundly affected by climate change and environmental degradation. The most influential institutions within the environmental movement maintain a firm grasp on access to decision-makers and funding, but are often not constructed to share power, accessibility, and resources with the very communities they aim to serve. This failure is intricately linked to the ongoing exclusion and lack of welcome toward individuals with marginalized identities associated with race, gender, religion, income, and more.

Greens REALIGN is dedicated to taking tangible steps toward enhancing our movement—making it more robust and equitable. Our mission is straightforward: to discover which organizations have successfully cultivated a sense of inclusion, value, and empowerment among individuals, promoting solutions that benefit everyone rather than a select few. We aspire to gather this vital data by engaging the voices of those who are doing this work and have seen what works and what doesn't --the staff at these organizations. And with that data we will put together a roadmap that shows our movement exactly how to move forward and win big without leaving any community behind. 

In the current state of our world, every effort I make can feel insignificant, as if it's never enough. However, if the struggle is all that we possess, I firmly believe we must invest our entire essence into it. We cannot afford to lose individuals who feel unwelcome in our movement and organizations and we can't retreat from the goal of a world where everyone is free. To succeed and create a world where everyone is free, safe, healthy, and thriving, we need EVERYONE at the table.
