Every day, New York City’s cooperatives and community-controlled groups — credit unions, land trusts, worker and food coops, community-owned internet and more — work together to grow their economic and political power.
With a new mayor and City Council taking office in 2026, New Yorkers have a rare chance to educate the public - and public officials - about New York’s solidarity economy and win policy support to strengthen and expand coop development across our city.
Support this movement and give by December 31st!
What CEANYC does
The Cooperative Economics Alliance of NYC (CEANYC) works to
build New York City’s 🗽 solidarity economy (SE)❤️🔥 How? In these
four ways:
-
- Research : We create resources that showcase the breadth and depth of NYC’s cooperative economy. Our Seeding Solidarity map, relaunched on our new website this past summer, enables New Yorkers to find these groups and join them
- Education and Training: We offer a range of educational programming to support leadership development within our member groups, from customized individual workshops to annual month-long programs
- Convenings: We create spaces for solidarity economy groups to meet, strategize and coordinate with each other and deepen their commitment to solidarity economy principles
- Matchmaking: We facilitate collaborations between CEANYC member groups, inviting them to prioritize working and doing business with one another, plus tailoring their pitches to get it done

"In this political climate, coming together is essential because we know that we can rely on each other and trust one other, and we really need each other. Being part of CEANYC’s cohorts has reminded me of how amazing our work really is." - Amanda, East New York Community Land Trust / Brooklyn Cooperative Federal Credit Union |
CEANYC had a busy 2025. Here are some highlights:
-
Cooperative Leadership Intensive (CLI) 2025
-
This CLI cohort - our 5th pictured above - was our most
sectorally diverse, ambitious, and impactful yet. Among a
range of co-ops, gardens and land trusts, the cohort included
4 Queens-based groups, 5 mutual aid projects, and 2
community-led cooperative bookstores - all firsts for the CLI.
This series had 16 sessions and 22 graduates.

- Conflict resilience - workshop pilot
-
In response to member demand for support around conflict
within their groups, we piloted this groundbreaking workshop
this past summer and will be integrating it into CEANYC member
onboarding and broader offerings in the Spring.
“If you’ve been a part of a community group, you know that conflict is inevitable and, if left to fester, can be destructive. CEANYC’s Conflict Resilience workshop will be transformational for the sustainability of our community soccer group, helping us work with conflict rather than against it. ” Amel Alyamani - Left Wing Futbolistas NYC

- Solidarity Economy Fall Fest
- This event was a collaboration between CEANYC, NYCNWOC and Artists for Mutual Aid, and brought together a range of cooperatives, artists, and solidarity economy groups. On a Sunday afternoon, we introduced hundreds of visitors to cleaning, financial and elder care co-ops, and more
- Policy convenings, surveys and questionnaire
- To ground policy demands and potential collaboration with city council members under a new mayoral administration, we surveyed our members to ask “What do you want a hypothetical NYC Office of Cooperative Economics to do for your organization.” We received dozens of responses and support from established global networks in Quebec and Spain. The survey provided a clear picture of current needs and priorities of members, and positioning us to engage with the city at the policy level.

“Working with CEANYC is a fantastic opportunity to assess the knowledge local groups have of Solidarity Economy. In our this Fall's 101 workshop we looked at real, local Brooklyn collaborative projects, to get the wheels of this new economy spinning. We are tremendously excited to deepen the relationship with all of our neighbors! ” - Q, Flatbush Mixtape / Flatbush Ladle Cooperative |
