Formerly Incarcerated People's Performance Project (FIPPP) believes the power of storytelling and sharing personal experiences from marginalized communities can be transformative. We help tell the often overlooked, powerful, individual stories of the formerly incarcerated around the experience of prison.

FIPPP supports our storytellers and helps us share their important
stories. We have a big year planned, which will culminate with our
third big festival of work at Berkeley Rep in January 2026. We hope
you join us on our journey. Hearing stories from those who have been
incarcerated fosters compassion and understanding about the
circumstances and choices that led them to incarceration, what they
endured and learned inside, and the hard-won success of their lives
after incarceration. Their stories give hope for the human condition
and our ability to reform and reinvent ourselves, as well as allow us
as a society to reconsider the inhumane conditions that prisoners
often endure.
Our work is important. According to The Sentencing Project,
there are over two million people currently incarcerated in the United
States. And often, the resources to help them successfully integrate
back into their communities after they have served their time are not
there. At any given time, there are almost one million people out on
parole. We believe communication and sharing these diverse stories are
key to both helping remove the stigma of incarceration and also
fostering understanding on both the societal and human levels.
FIPPP works year-round. And as we grow and as FIPPP expands its
reach in the Bay Area community, we hope to reach more individuals,
more future employers, and more family members who can learn from our
work.
