I've been on a gender journey for 20+ years. It wasn't until I had language to name my experience that I began to feel a little more comfortable in my skin. It started with changing my pronouns to she/they, which felt edgy. Then, they/she to better represent how I was evolving. It wasn't until I started using they/them pronouns as a trans nonbinary human that I finally felt like I was getting much closer to congruence.
Having top surgery one year ago was the greatest gift I could have ever given myself, and I began to feel embodied in a way that I never imagined possible.
However, leading up to that gender-affirming procedure, I had so many questions and fears, and not many people to turn to who truly understood...
That's one of many reasons I decided to become a volunteer Gender Advocate with TACT (Transgender Advocacy & Care Team).
That means that I counsel trans and nonbinary kin as they explore
what gender means to them, provide resources, and—more than anything—a
caring peer who will listen and see them in their unique experience,
attune to their system, and be there in a loving support role in their lives.
Isn't that what we all need... To feel less alone and loved?
This moment in history feels particularly overwhelming for our
community, and it will likely get worse before it gets

Who we are and what we do
We’re a small but mighty staff team of three, supported over the years by more than 60 dedicated volunteers. Together, we make sure no trans person faces the world alone.
TACT (Trans Advocacy and Care Team) is the only virtual network providing free, confidential peer counseling, support groups, and resource navigation for trans people across the U.S.
When when trans people are supported and have access to the resources they need, they can thrive—and in doing so, help build a better world for all.
As trans folks ourselves, we’re rewriting the narratives pushed by anti-trans extremists. We know that being trans is beautiful—that trans joy is possible for every trans person.
Why this moment matters
Trans communities are in crisis. Anti-trans rhetoric and policies are escalating every day, hitting hardest in the South and Midwest, where safety and well-being are increasingly at risk.
We’re seeing unprecedented demand for our services. More trans people than ever are reaching out, seeking peer support that affirms their existence, celebrates their identity, and reminds them they are cherished.
Right now, 100+ trans adults are on our waitlist to join our support groups or receive 1-on-1 peer counseling—but our grant funding has fallen short this year.
Did you know? Nonprofits serving transgender communities only receive 3¢ out of every $100 granted by all U.S. foundations.
