Help us invest in upgrading our irrigation system and remediate our soil this winter, so we can continue feeding and growing with our communities for years to come.
As the days get shorter, and the air gets colder, The Gill Tract Community Farm is getting ready to welcome the regenerative rest of the winter time for our community. 13 years ago, our farm started as a result of direct action, to reject the threat of destructive development. Since then, our farm has grown into a community hub in ways beyond belief! Thanks to your contributions, we were able to grow tens of thousands of sustainably farmed produce and feed thousands of Bay Area residents for low to no-cost. through various organizational partnerships, we hosted thousands of hours of community work. We also hold dozens of community workshops, and partner with the City of Albany to open a compost hub and deliver hundreds of cubic yards of organic compost for free to local communities.
Now, over a decade later and less than $15,000 away from our initial fundraising goal, we are at the heels of an exciting stage of growth at our farm. Here are what lies ahead this winter at Gill Tract:
- Irrigation Upgrade: Our farm is planning to conduct necessary upgrades to our old irrigation system in order to conserve water and farm more sustainably. This is a long-term investment that will benefit our community for years to come!
- Cover Cropping: We intend to plant cover crops to promote soil regeneration, fixing nitrogen in the soil, increasing organic matter, decreasing soil compaction and attracting biodiversity that will ensure a more bountiful harvest for the rest of the year.
- Winter Harvest Festival: Our Winter Harvest Festival, set to happen on December 5th 2025, will mark our last farm stand of the year and serve as a kick-off point for all our exciting winter upgrades at the farm. We plan to offer free food, organize performances, and connect with community like YOU.
