Mutual Aid: In Striving Towards Trans Muslim Liberation
Join us for a five-session series exploring mutual aid as an Islamic practice. This program begins illuminating how we as trans-queer Muslims define and experience mutual aid.
As a liberation-oriented community, we’ve shared, spoken about, and strived for liberation through our jummahs in the past four months. We entered the new Solar Year with our Towards Trans Muslim Liberation series, entered Ramadan asking ourselves how we center Trans Muslims, and focused on Eid Al-Fitr as a riot. As we enter Spring and approach Eid Al-Adha, we expand our connection to the tangible strategies necessary to build a liberated world — specifically, mutual aid.
A natural manifestation of collectivism, care, and reciprocity, mutual aid is a tool utilized to ensure that the harm caused by systems of oppression for multiple centuries and counting is irrelevant . By analyzing what mutual aid may look like in both times of crisis and utopia, this theory-oriented series will offer insight into how mutual aid grounds us in Islam and how this orientation of mutual aid allows us to nurture faith in alternative, liberated systems.
This program specifically centers a Global Majority, Trans, Disabled, Muslim lens and is created for individuals who relate to identities on the margins and/or are learning about a mutual aid strategy that center the most marginalized of the most marginalized.
All identities are welcome. We ask that individuals join this space respecting the central identities of this program. Anti-Blackness, ableism, anti-poor, anti-trans, Islamophobia or any other form of harm will not be tolerated.
All funds redistributed to this training program go towards supporting trans folk most impacted by genocide.

Session Topics
Session 1 | Defining Mutual Aid: May 15, 2026 @ 10 - 11 AM PT / 1 - 2 PM ET
What does Islam teach us about mutual aid? How do we conceive of and embody mutual aid as a living entity, ebbing and flowing with the times? Why is it necessary to center mutual aid as we commemorate the 78 th anniversary of Nakba Day? Ultimately, this session will urge us to fully immerse ourselves in mutual aid in order to divest from capitalism and the state.
Session 2 | Making Harm Irrelevant: May 22, 2026 @ 10 AM - 12 PM PT / 1 - 3 PM ET
The Navigating Differences statement came out this time in 2023, causing immense harm to our community. As we get used to attacks on our community, we begin to anticipate the systems of care needed to make such harm irrelevant. Who and what relationships are needed to build these systems of care? How is mutual aid extended beyond money when needed? In this case, our community needs peer support, perhaps even spiritual support. What does mutual aid look like with that built in?
Session 3 | Eid Al Adha Prayer: May 27, 2026 @ 8 - 9 AM PT / 11 AM - 12 PM ET
Join us for Eid Al Adha celebration with prayer & khutbah as Sanae L. Alaoui, a creative organizer who dreams of alternative worlds with Metro Atlanta Mutual Aid Fund. Sanae will introduce us to Time Banking: What does mutual aid beyond crisis and capitalism look like?
We will announce the auction fundraiser to raise funds for queer & trans Muslims most impacted by genocide.
Session 4 | Mutual Aid with Killjoy Institute: May 29, 2026 @ 10 - 11 AM PT / 1 - 2 PM ET
Join Killjoy Institute, a queer & trans led third space for the feminist killjoys building a liberated world, for a session around how they embody mutual aid in their movement-building work.
Session 5 | Facilitation of Mutual Aid in Community: Jun 5, 2026 @ 10 - 11 AM PT / 1 - 2 PM ET
This session is the final in the series and gives us an opportunity to explore applying these concepts to your local area. What are the needs in your area and how might you mobilize to meet those needs? Strategies to Identify the needs, identify the community in need, and identify the resources to meet those needs.
