About Our Founder

Diabadass was founded by Erik Douds, a documentary adventure filmmaker and endurance athlete living with Type 1 diabetes. After years of navigating diabetes alongside filmmaking, cycling, and advocacy work, Erik created Diabadass to elevate real voices, reduce isolation, and reframe what’s possible with diabetes.

Diabadass Retreats

Diabadass Retreats bring people living with diabetes together in person to co-create, learn, and build lasting relationships. After successfully hosting two retreats in New York City, the program has helped blur the line between teachers and students—supporting participants to step into leadership, launch new projects, and form peer-led groups such as the Diabetes Sangha. With donor support, Diabadass is preparing to expand these retreats nationally, growing a connected, community-led model of diabetes education across the country.
