Challah. Collard Greens. Matzah Ball Soup. Roast Chicken.

Playing Together Project began with four people sitting around the dinner table with a roast chicken, collard greens and bowls of matzah ball soup at the home of San Diego resident Barrett Holman Leak. Barrett had a vision to bring together some of the diversity she holds within herself, so she invited three people - an American Ashkenazi Jewish, and an African American Christian couple for dinner. That evening sparked a conversation about the shared legacies of African Americans and American Jews that created the American Civil Rights Movement and helped cause justice to begin in modern American society. It also sparked a Jewish solidarity exhibition tent at the city's Juneteenth Freedom Festival. From there, many dinners began with even longer tables of delicious food and good dialogue. Healing has begun for many who did not know how to get the conversation started or how to keep it going.

Playing Together Project, led by a team of visionary, compassionate professionals, is a fiscally sponsored non-profit organization that embraces the concept of breaking bread with people and sharing of oneself. Dinner and dialogue, even the difficult conversations, bring us together

You can help create a better world with us by helping us bring these dinners to more people in San Diego and create more alliances for peace, justice and stronger community bonds. We don't do "performance" events to look good; we authentically help people make lasting connections, understand what they can do to keep the relationships growing and how we can all move forward together. By our bonds, formed and fortified with delicious food, film, music, and art, we defeat racism, antisemitism and all forms of hate.
