The Black Embodiments Studio deepens how we encounter, understand, and write about contemporary black art.

We run an Arts Writing Incubator where people develop the technical and conceptual tools to produce skilled, culturally competent writing about black art. Our Public Programming initiatives create opportunities for everyday people to have meaningful encounters with black art. Through our Publishing platform we support writers in developing and sharing ideas that transform how we understand black art and the social, cultural, and political worlds in which it exists.

We believe black art deserves rigorous, inventive, and accessible discourse, and that the people who create and sustain that discourse deserve meaningful support. We are thus committed to building the spaces, skills, and ideas that make such discourse possible—to creating environments where people have the tools, time, and support to look closely, think critically, and develop their ideas with care and honesty.
