Give Joy Tier
What’s included in this tier:
💬❤️☮️ Live Direct Compassionate Communication Practice Group: Radical Permission to Play
We’ll explore the ways we block play, exploration, and possibility--not with shame, but with curiosity. Together, we’ll examine the judgments we carry (like “I don’t deserve this,” or “it’s irresponsible to rest,” ) and gently translate them into the unmet needs beneath them.
Through guided self-connection practices and compassionate dialogue roleplay, you’ll identify the feelings activated in your resistance to joy and connect them to the core needs at stake. We’ll practice moving from scarcity to spaciousness by identifying one action you can take that honors your needs with integrity.
This is not about toxic positivity. It’s about understanding what stands in the way of joy so that gratitude and delight can emerge authentically. Because joy is not the opposite of responsibility, accountability or awareness - it can be the fruit of it!
Date Options:
- 2nd Saturdays @ 11am - 1pm PT / 2 - 4pm ET
- 3rd Tuesdays @ 4pm - 6pm PT / 7 - 9pm ET
📔 Direct Compassionate Communication Basics Workbook
In systems shaped by domination and disconnection, learning to speak and listen with care is radical work.
Many of us were never taught how to stay present in tension and conflict, and we often confuse discomfort for danger. Conversations turn into defensiveness, silence, or shame (even when we care about one another).
Direct Compassionate Communication (DCC) invites us to slow down, get into our body, notice what we’re experiencing and challenge our beliefs, name what we’re feeling, connect that to what we’re needing, and to make clear requests.
This workbook is a place for you to practice and build capacity for presence and honest expression.
📋️14-Day Liberation Action Plan

"In a society that promotes perfectionism, anti-racism work is made tougher, paralyzing those of us who want to do better with worry that we might make a mistake. This is the byproduct of patriarchal, white supremist cultures that value the work of the individual above all else; in contrast, Check Your Privilege values the collective, knowing that this vulnerable work requires us to lean into interdependence and imperfection. Check Your Privilege requires all of us to pause, making time for self-reflection and connection through relationships in order to move forward. In this book, five social activists offer a window into their journeys of Living Into the Work. Learning from their relationships with anti-Blackness, white supremacy, privilege, and discrimination, we feel empowered to brave the next step on our our Check Your Privilege journeys."

A Direct Compassionate Communication Series
Have you been taught that joy is avoidance and distraction?
That finding pleasure signals indifference to suffering or complicity in the system?
Oof. No wonder you’re burnt all the way out.
What if play is not avoidance, but a sustainable resistance strategy?
What if self-care is soul care, and nourishing your soul requires making space for grief and joy to coexist?
What to Expect:
- 2nd Saturdays @ 11am - 1pm PT / 2 - 4pm ET
- 3rd Tuesdays @ 4pm - 6pm PT / 7 - 9pm ET
In this Direct Compassionate Communication practice, we’ll explore the ways we block play, exploration, and possibility--not with shame, but with curiosity. Together, we’ll examine the judgments we carry (like “I don’t deserve this,” “it’s irresponsible to rest,” “joy is a luxury I can't afford”) and gently translate them into the unmet needs beneath them.
Through guided self-connection practices and compassionate dialogue roleplay, you’ll identify the feelings activated in your resistance to joy and connect them to the core needs at stake. We’ll practice moving from scarcity to spaciousness by identifying one action you can take (or one honest request you can communicate directly!) that honors your needs with integrity.
Participants will leave with practical skills that promote relational healing, inner clarity, and courageous possibility. When we speak our needs without blame and listen without defense, joy becomes less threatening and more accessible.
This is not about toxic positivity.
It’s about understanding what stands in the way of joy so that gratitude and delight can emerge authentically.
Because joy is not the opposite of responsibility, accountability or awareness - it can be the fruit of it!
Why It is Important to Attend:
Your participation contributes to our fundraiser: Joy is the Revolution - A National Nervous System Intervention.
This year-long tour is a national call to reclaim joy and play as powerful forces for collective healing.
In a culture shaped by burnout and urgency, this 31-city experience spanning the United States and Cozumel, Mexico creates vibrant spaces for laughter, movement, music, and embodied connection because liberation should be felt, not just discussed.
Through immersive gatherings, participants engage in nervous system care while rediscovering creativity, delight, and the courage to imagine differently. This is not just programming, it’s sacred play. A reminder that sustainable change grows from communities that know how to rest, compassionately communicate, and celebrate together.
Your support:
- fuels the travel and production costs for dynamic experiences across the country rooted in community care and celebration
- creates accessible events so that everyone may participate
- and provides scholarships for those experiencing resource scarcity (joy and play is not just for the financially privileged!)
Joy is strategy. Play is resistance. And healing, done together, changes everything. To learn more and see the map, visit our website: joyistherevolution.org
NOTE: Join (and fund!) the Heal Your Way Forward Collective to access a pay-what-feels-good option (this and many more sessions are either free or available at a reduced rate to our members)!
We are committed to keeping our tour events accessible. No one is ever turned away for inability to pay because joy and play is not just for the financially privileged!
📣 To make that possible, we need your help:
To help those experiencing resource scarcity, consider making a contribution to our event scholarships!
